Section 1 – The Product.
1. What are Water Rings?
Water Rings are water storing flowerpot liners. They are a breakthrough
in container gardening. They combine capillary matting with superfast
absorbent gel.
2. What are the Key Benefits of Water Rings?
Water Rings create a water source in a layer at root level. This
encourages root growth and maintains water inside the compost helping
to nourish the plant.
Using Water Rings helps prevent containers drying out.
Using Water Rings means you have one easy application and don't have
to worry about the amount of granules to add to your compost.
Water Rings granules stay inside the capillary matting not straying
around the pot, getting bigger and bigger.
3. What are Water Rings made from?
Water Rings are produced from polymer fibres. They are non toxic,
and do not contain sodium salts. They do contain traces of potassium
which can benefit plants.
4. How much Water do Water Rings hold?
Size 1 Water Rings hold at least 125ml of water – for small round pots.
Size 2 Water Rings hold at least 150ml of water – for medium round pots.
Size 3 Water Rings hold at least 500ml of water – for large round pots
and hanging baskets.
Size 4 Water Rings hold at least 500ml of water – for troughs, window
boxes and large square containers.
5. How many Water Rings are there in each packet?
There are 4 Water Rings inside each packet.
6. How long will Water Rings retain water for?
In normal conditions Water Rings will absorb then retain water for up to
7 days. However, depending on the size and position of your container
and on the type of plant/s this may vary. Please check your plants during
a prolonged hot or dry spell.
7. If my pot does get dry, will the Water Ring work again?
Yes, the water storing granules inside the Water Ring will absorb
water and be recharged.
8. Is there an expiry date on Water Rings?
No. Keep Water Rings dry in their packet they will last
until you are ready to use them. Just take out what you need and keep
the rest.
9. Are Water Rings biodegradable?
Yes, Water Rings last for a growing season, approximately 7-8 months.
Water Rings break down naturally in the soil.
Section 2 – Planting.
10. Do you add water to the Water Rings when first planting?
Yes. We recommend that you add water to the Water Ring to expand
the Ring before adding compost. Place the Water Ring inside the pot
'dimples' side upward.
11. Where do you place the Water Ring in the pot?
Make sure your container has drainage holes to allow any excess water to flow away. Then, add a drainage layer at the bottom of your pot with
broken 'crock' or small pebbles. Place the Water Ring on top of this
layer and add water.
12. Should I leave a space at the top of the pot when planting?
Yes, leave at least 1"/20mm at the top of the pot. The Water Ring
expands to 3 times its original thickness. If you add water to expand the
Water Ring you can judge the space to leave below the pot rim. This will
form a water reservoir. If you put in too much compost water will simply
slide off the top of the pot and not penetrate to feed the plant.
13. Will Water Rings cause the container to get waterlogged and damage
roots?
No. Water Rings absorb enough water to swell the water storing granules
held within the Water Ring. Any excess water will drain directly through
or around the sides of the Water Ring and out through the drainage hole.
14. Do roots grow through the Water Ring?
Yes, roots penetrate the Water Ring. In big or tall pots you
can add an extra Water Ring about half way down, to create a double
layer and act as a 'staging' post for roots on their downward journey.
15. When you first plant-up do you water as normal?
Yes, you must allow time for roots to grow, so add water to avoid the
Container drying out at the top level – remember, Water Rings store
water at root level.
16. Can I use fertilizers with Water Rings?
Yes, use either liquid or slow release fertilizers as usual. A seaweed or
organic liquid feed can produce good results as the nourishment is
absorbed by the Water Ring instead of pouring straight through the pot.
17. Can I use Water Rings outside a container?
Yes, you can place Water Rings on a seed tray or sink area
if you are going away for a few days. Add water, then place the pot or
container on top of the Water Ring.
The plant will draw up water using capillary action. Place in a sheltered
area away from direct sunlight. A tip is to add a mulch of fine pebbles on
top of the Water Ring to further retain moisture.
18. Should I keep Water Rings away from Children and pets?
Yes. Please keep Water Rings safely out of reach.
Happy Gardening!
